As an enthusiast motherboard with extremely successful FSB overclocking with core 2 duo processors, it's unacceptable that the highest-end Intel processor is hindered by this problem. Jan 04, 2011 · That board doesn't support 45nm Core 2 Quad CPUs, so you'll be limited to either a 45nm C2D or a 65nm C2Q on the high side. I would personally go with a 65nm quad. A Q6600 is probably your best bet, but if you're very lucky you might be able to find a reasonably-priced higher-end model like a Q6700 or QX6850. ... Best CPU for the 680i SLI ...

Nov 29, 2007 · According Asus the new Nforce 780i and 750i (See respectively the Asus P5NT Deluxe and P5N-D) will not work with the 45 nm quad core Penryn, although the 45 nm dual core versions (E8000 series) will still work on these new Nforce 780/750i and ofcourse the Nforce 680i will also work with the dual cores E8000 series: Source:

Feb 14, 2009 · I don't think the Q9400 is supported. I heard the XFX nForce 680i SLI motherboards got a BIOS update which supported Dual-Core 45nm CPUs, but support for Quad-Core 45nm chips was a feature of their 700 series motherboards. This made for lots of unhappy 680i mobo owners, since they could only use 65nm quads- see links below:
