Jun 10, 2014 · I am using ActiveSupport::TimeZone to set the time zone on a location based on the zip code. def set_time_zone self.time_zone = ActiveSupport::TimeZone.find_by_zipcode(self.zip) end This works just fine in the application itself. I am calling the set_time_zone on before_save.

Mar 15, 2017 · After going through #12461, I would agree with @pixeltrix As he stated that "The main purpose of MAPPING is to build the options list for time_zone_select" And it also says in the documentation that it "Limits the set of zones provided by TZInfo to a meaningful subset of 146 zones."
