I did create a new PST file, defaulted Outlook to it and resynched my phone from scratch. The phone contents got poured into this new PST. It seems to have fixed the problem for good. It has no problem with the first PC (whichever is sync'ed first), only when sync'ing with the second one. i'm also sync'ing with an exchange server on both PCs, and no problem there. i've also tried to set up the exchange sync on the phone (as well as on each of the PCs initially), the local PIM sync problem still persists.
