Aug 30, 2018 · Do they play 24 bit already from the Sonos controller och is that only possible throught Airplay 2? If it's the later then I would guess theres bit conversion (to 16) going on in the Sonos components. When it comes to streaming to the older speakers I would guess this conversion takes place in the Airplay 2-compatible.

Jun 19, 2014 · Airport Express works at 16 bit / 44.1kHz with all audio converted to ALAC before being sent to the AEX via Airplay. The Apple TV converts everything bia Airplay 16 bit / 48kHz, which is a bit odd. Other Airplay devices (e.g. Arcam's Airdac) have 24 bit / 96+kHz internals, but will still receive that same 16 bit / 44.1kHz audio irrespective of the source format.
