Log on to the AIX system that hosts WebSphere Application Server and open a console window. You must have root authority to work with the AIX operating system commands.; Verify large page size support by running the following command: ps -Z Output from the command includes 4 K and 64 K page sizes that are listed for processes, for example:

Large pages - IBM

AIX® supports large page usage by both 32-bit and 64-bit applications. The POWER4 large page architecture requires all the virtual pages in a 256 MB segment to be the same size. AIX supports this architecture by using a mixed mode process model such that some segments in a process are backed with 4 KB pages, while other segments are backed with 16 MB pages.

AIX supports large page usage by both 32- and 64-bit applications. Both the 32- and 64-bit versions of the AIX kernel support large pages. AIX maintains separate 4KB and 16MB size physical memory pools.

(Note: shmget() is called with the SHM_PIN flag set.) In addition to setting the Oracle LOCK_SGA parameter to TRUE, the AIX operating system must be configured to allow pinned memory to be used for shared memory. AIX Oracle large page support

IBM Large / Huge page support on DB2 LUW

    http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21986164
On AIX, large (16MB) pages will be enabled for database memory as opposed to huge (16GB) pages. When you are using large or huge pages for database memory (DB), dynamic decreasing of database memory is limited, and the db_mem_thresh setting is ignored. The self-tuning memory manager (STMM) does not adjust the overall size of the database area.

Enabling large pages on Oracle Database 11g running on IBM AIX

    https://blog.pythian.com/enabling-large-pages-oracle-database-11g-running-ibm-aix/
Apr 04, 2016 · Large Pages is useful when memory on server is large and your SGA is going to be large too. For example when you have 100G of memory on your AIX server and you are planning SGA with size of 64G, if you go with default page size which is 4K on AIX, then you will have more than 16 millions of pages for your SGA at OS level, but if you go with 16M page …

AIX:ASM will not start after implementing large pages

Dec 29, 2019 · AIX 6.1 and 7.1 support setting of three or four page sizes(depending on hardware) -- 4KB, 64KB, 16MB, 16GB. Note that Oracle 11.2+ will automatically use 64KB pages unless AME is enabled at the OS tier. AIX 5.3 was different in many OS tuneables than 6.1+ so this note should not be considered complete for AIX 5.3.(there will be other tuneables)

TUNING: memory page sizes - UNIX & Linux Forums

    https://www.unix.com/aix/40005-tuning-memory-page-sizes.html
The problem is that tuning questions are platform specific and we are a little short on AIX experts. But in general, large page sizes can waste a large percentage of a large page for every memory segment and that is the only downside. With 13 GB of physical memory you probably want a large page size and this is especially true with Oracle running.
