    Due to protection technology DRM, MP4 files cannot be easily distributed, while it is much simpler to replicate files in M4A; that is why “Apple Lovers” prefer the latter format. With M4A, it is possible to buy music in iTunes, as well as download it into smartphones or other devices. Programs5/5(1)

    Jul 19, 2009 · My compelling reason to do this at this point would be to get my “smart playlists” back along with better M4A support. Amarock 2 has M4A support (though buggy in 2.1.x) playlists and dynamic playlists, but they seem to have not understood the value of smart playlists and how the way they worked in KDE 3.5.x / Amarok 1.4.x was good.

M4A support? :: Audiosurf 2 General Discussions

    I did a search for this and didn't see anyone talking about it. But it looks like .m4a files aren't supported. m4a has better compression than mp3 and retains more of the original quality compared to the same bitrate as mp3. Also, if you've ever needed to rip a song from .mp4 files you can do it directly to .m4a without having to do any re-encoding since mp4 files use m4a as their audio channel.
