Ultimately, there are technically 3 things needed for ECC support. CPU support (all AM3+ chips do) BIOS support. Chipset support (990FX and all other AM3+ chipsets support it to my knowledge) In the case of AMD, number 2 is generally the hardest to achieve. AFAIK, ASUS is the only one who actually adds ECC support to the listed specs.

While Intel artificially limits ECC support to pricey Xeon processors or low-end Pentium models that no one would ever use for serious work, AMD have always quietly supported ECC memory. Jul 02, 2014 · AFAIK all AMD CPUs and chipsets *can* support ECC RAM, it's just up to the mobo manufacturer as to whether they make it available in the BIOS. When I ran a Sempron 140 + ASUS M4A785TD-M Evo that *definitely* supported ECC. Best bet is probably to download the manual for any mobo you're thinking of and check the BIOS settings available.

All the x570 boards should support the physical modules, but they don't all seem to actually operate in ECC mode. The ASUS Pro WS x570 board is the only one I'm aware of that was actually designed+marketed to be used for ECC purposes.
