Compression only supports in ANSYS. ... How can they have x and z components when y is the direction normal to the support plane and they are compression only? Also, does anyone have any input on what would be the most realistic way to model sliding bearing pads? Friction forces are negligable, so what I really need is frictionless compression ...

Nov 27, 2019 · Hi everyone, I would to know how to apply compression only support in this plate. I think that I should apply compression only in the hole, the force in one of the two directions and in the other I should apply a fixed support or displacement with x=0, y=free and z=free (in 3D case).

compression only and bearing support

Dec 06, 2019 · A Compression only support creates a frictionless contact with a rigid surface. That is like putting a pin in the hole. Bearing load creates a force on the nodes where the maximum force is at 0 degrees and zero force is at 90 degrees on either side and the distribution of force is sinusoidal.

Sep 15, 2009 · So to make a compression-only support in MAPDL (sorry, using new names of ANSYS products here), you need to create a copy of the face you want to apply the load to, and mesh it with target elements with the amesh command, and then mesh the flexible body face with the proper contact elements (once again, using amesh). Hope this helps, Doug Oatis
