x86/apic: Panic if kernel doesn't support x2apic but BIOS has enabled x2apic When kernel doesn't support X2APIC but BIOS has enabled X2APIC, system may panic or hang without useful messages. On the other hand, it's hard to dynamically disable X2APIC when CONFIG_X86_X2APIC is disabled. So panic with a clear message in such a case.

Dec 25, 2009 · I got a kernel panic the other day on a machine that has been fine for 6 months+. I can't be more descriptive, because that's all I was told over the phone before someone rebooted it. Since then, no panics, but I am seeing things that trouble me and am just looking for some guidance on any action I may need to take.

Jan 05, 2011 · Kernel Panic not syncing: IO APIC+timer dos'nt work! After searching other similar posts I have not found an answer. I have recently installed Ubuntu 10.4.1 after reformatting the computer from the previous Ubuntu Edgy. When rebooting get this msg (in title). I used the live CD to get into the grub files to see if I could ad 'noacip' option.

I am trying to boot Gentoo (64b) and having kernel panic during boot if I enable IO APIC (I need SMP support). Without IO APIC enabled Gentoo boot fine. Gentoo was installed from Ubuntu Live CD, where IO APIC was working. Host is Acer R3-131T laptop with Intel N3700 (cheap low-end cpu but should support virtualization) running Windows 8.1 64b.
