Sep 29, 2018 · Hi, I think you need to compile Ardour from source to enable FREESOUND, just like you have to compile it to get VST or LV2 support. If you have it compiled with FREESOUND then it will appear as an extra tab on the file “import” menu, the same one you use to import any outside Audio source into Ardour.

Ardour 3 can import and export .ogg files, so whatever may have been said in the past, its lack of MP3 support clearly isn't about audio quality. The reason why Ardour doesn't "do" MP3 must therefore be the legal issues around free software, patents and licensing.

I chose to select Freesound support along with VST by running the following command line in the main directory of the Ardour source code. scons VST=1 FREESOUND=1 . The build ran for more than 30 minutes, once complete, the last line of output was: scons: done building targets.
