To add a codec for SIP/SDP (m=, rtmap, and ftmp), you create a format module in Asterisk: codec_amr.patch (for m= and rtmap) and res/res_format_attr_amr.c (for fmtp). However, this requires both call legs to support AMR (pass-through only). If one leg does not support AMR, the call has no audio.

Jan 25, 2018 · Supporting GSM codecs (HR/FR/EFR) in Asterisk takes care of being able to establish a call, but anything with better quality (especially VoLTE calls with AMR-WB) is being downgraded to FR (if supported by the handset) unless AMR is supported. The provider-supplied VoIP/DSL routers support the full set of codecs AFAICS.

Sep 23, 2008 · Is it possible to use a Softphone with AMR-WB codec with Asterisk? I want to set up a peer to peer audio call using the AMR-WB codec that is not supported by Asterisk. Is it possible to configure Asterisk to let the INVITE (wit AMR_WB) pass, setting up a peer to peer call (both the clients support the codec.) Thank you
