Tux is part of AMD's licensed product package graphics, Linux drivers are shipping on the product CDs, and there is same-day support for the Radeon HD 4850/4870 on Linux with fglrx 8.50 / Catalyst 8.6.

I've been trying to get video card drivers for my Radeon HD 4850 as I wanted to play Minecraft and it's rather slow. Using the 'Additional Drivers' program I was givin drivers that seemed like the right fit since it could detect what I have.

As far as AMD is concerned you have legacy hardware. When people use these proprietary drivers there seems to be lot of problems with hardware that falls into this category because AMD has dropped the support. Try using open source drivers: sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-ati …

Check the version of Ubuntu you have installed: Ubuntu 16.04 and newer releases: look at the 16.04+ column. Ubuntu 14.04: kernel Linux 4.4.0-xx-generic (HWE stack Xenial), look at the 16.04+ column. kernel Linux 3.13.0-xx-generic, look at the 14.04 column.

Jun 27, 2008 · Can you please tell me if the new ATI 4850 is supported? I tried the latest Pstrip beta, and it identifies it as '4800 series' but the 'Advanced Timing Options' box is greyed out. I previously used Powerstrip successfully on a 2600XT to set a precise 23.976 refresh rate versus the driver's 24.000 and would love to be able to do the same again.

Nov 22, 2008 · Update: I bought an Intel Q9450 + P45 Gigabyte EP45-DS3P motherboard + Ati 4850 and everything works fine. I am using the AOC Sata PCI-X card which has 8 Sata ports, for my ZFS raid (i've posted about it earlier here, search for my name).

I thought my card was ok for DX11 but i noticed that i couldn't get the very high textures in DAO2 because it said I needed compatible hardware for it. (i have the dx 11 version installed).
