Jun 02, 2009 · To my disappointment, I found this (ATI does not support AVC with High Profile above L4.1) after I bought the card. All my encodes are done with L5.1 as my other PC is a Core 2 Duo which has an NVidia 9600GT. For some reason, the NVidia driver is able to support DXVA for AVC High Profile L5.1, so I simply assumed ATI would be the same.

DXVA is more picky than CUDA: it works only for video decoding and only for the files with input H.264, MPEG2, and VC-1 codecs. This technology is majorly used by video converters, DVD copiers, and video players. A big plus is that the list of supported video cards includes ATI Radeon HD, NVIDIA GeForce, and some Intel cards.

Sep 14, 2006 · Noise 4. Power usage I tried with an ati x800GTO (dosent support avivo) it plain out sucked in vista ran my cpu to 100% usage. It works fine under media center 2005 with the same video files. So i need a card to offload as much as possible the 1080p video playback under vista. Does either of these cards support dxva 2.0?

Apr 01, 2012 · In spec of most ATI cards, UVD (unified video decoder) is one feature of card. It is used for acclerating video decoding by using hardware. When we try use DXVA 2.0 API on windows to decode 720p MP4 file with LTR, we find there is mosaic in output on ATI cards such as 6950 and so on. But the same code is run well on NVIDIA cards.

The video stream itself must be DXVA compliant. For example, H.264 video with more than 11 reference frames are not DXVA compatible. The limitation that the video decoder must be connected directly to the video renderer only applies the the native variant of DXVA.

Add deinterlace support to Windows DXVA renderer. For DXVA decoding, NV12 is preferred now for better deinterlacing on Ati (and maybe others). It adds four new deinterlace options when using the DXVA renderer: Bob, Adaptive (Low), Adaptive (Medium) and High quality.

Aug 05, 2009 · It's widely known that ATI card owners do not have the luxury of Nvidia card owners when it comes to playing HD video in MPC-HC in DXVA mode. With the built-in H.264/AVC video decoder, HD video such as 1920x800 with reference frames of 6 and above (i.e. L5.0 / L5.1 AVC streams) won't play (actually, it usually plays but with corrupted blocks and/or video freezing after a few seconds).

The technology that uses GPU features for video playback is called DirectX Video Acceleration (DXVA). It allows to use a video processor in decoding and post processing video (deinterlacing, noise reduction, etc). Video decoding features of the latest GPUs from ATI and NVIDIA support the following formats: MPEG2, WMV9, and H.264.

Output is " EVR Custom Pres " "EVR Buffer 5" " system setting for Real media and QuickTime."This setting works for all my other computers including a old Nvidia 6150se, and is what it says to be for hardware acceleration according to guides online and MPC website.

In any case, I found out with a little research on my own getting me to choose to upgrade to an ATI Radeon HD 4xxx Series Card. Basically, the ATI Radeon HD 2xxx/3xxx with the UVD decoder doesn't use full enough mpeg4/h.264 hardware decoding support, and so you need ATI cards with more full mpeg4/h.264 hardware support where those would be ...
