Checked with Symantec, and they do not support USB drives for Backup Exec. Symantec does support USB RDX backup devices, and it 'usually works' with standard USB drives (as per the configuration recommended in this post).

Sep 17, 2010 · Our Tape Drive kicked the bucket and I decided to try a couple of 1TB removable drives in a USB Sata Dock. I'm hoping someone here can give me some guidance as to how to configure the devices/media. I'm currently using the removable drives as Removable backup-to-disk folders. The data backs up correctly, but it hangs at verify.

Backup Exec 2010 R2 is installed on a Windows 2008 R2 server. We connect the drives to a separate workstation on the network. There is only 1 drive connected at a time. They all use the same drive letter and same network share.
