Apr 12, 2017 · The OpenCL Split Kernel now supports nearly all features. Only Correlated multi jitter is missing. Baking works, but uses the mega kernel. Volumetrics, SSS, Branched path tracing, HDR lightning and Denoising are fully supported.

Blender uses OpenGL to display things in the 3D viewport. Both Nvidia and ATI cards support OpenGL (OpenGL is used for LOTS of games). So, strictly speaking of the shaded and texture views of the 3D viewport, either card might be better than the other. It's hard to tell.
