Jan 14, 2017 · 1) File system has nothing to do with it as OS X is incapable of writing to an NTFS partition without 3rd-party software. 2) It has already been well established that Apple's servers are horrendously slow to download Windows support software when run through Boot Camp Assistant, which is why there are mirrors on their support site linked above.

So, there's quite a few other “Boot Camp Assistant's handling of the ‘Windows support software’ is terrible” questions; but as far as I can tell, none of them directly relate to my problem:. On a machine on which Boot Camp Assistant doesn't give the option to use external install media¹, I get stuck at the “Saving Windows support software …” step, when the progress-bar is at 100%:

Moreover, the install disk and the recovery disk are showing that the MBP is still on Lion - the install disk is still showing the "install Snow Leopard" dialogue box while the recovery disk is showing the option "Set up and restore Lion" (or something like that, I can't remember), while when choosing the startup disk, it shows "Macintosh HD Mac OS X 10.6.7"!

I used my PC to create a bootable drive and download Windows 10 on a USB, which went fine. When I run Boot Camp Assistant, I select the bottom 2 options (Downloading Support software and downloading Windows). I've tried this multiple times, and every time it gets stuck saving the Support Software.
