May 08, 2017 · Note that many modern distros (including Debian) ship with a version of OpenSSL that disables support for SSLv2 ciphers. If sslscan is compiled on one of these distros, it will not be able to detect SSLv2. This issue can be resolved by rebuilding OpenSSL from source after removing the patch that disables SSLv2 support.

Jan 18, 2016 · Such a check is present for the SSLv2 support, but as SSLv3 is also ancient and has known weaknesses, it is getting more likely to encounter OpenSSL installations that have SSLv3 support disabled. The FreeBSD port of nagios-plugins is currently using the following patch to allow the build to succeed; I think it can be used verbatim here, too:

Since Ubuntu 10.10 SSLv2 seems to be disabled because of known security reasons. If i run curl against my URL with the -1, -2 or -3 command, it works with ssl version 1 and 3. However with -2 i get curl: (4) OpenSSL was built without SSLv2 support as a response.
