can anyone name actual C++ compilers that don't support 64 bit long long's? is there a way to make GCC compile 64 bit arithmetic (on 32 bit platform) without compiler warnings? (stdint.h does not help, as it also depends on long long) P.S. If there are platforms where long longs become 128 bit or bigger, that is interesting, but not a problem ...

From the description given it sounds like Patrick's "not-so-old" compilers are in the same category as a 90's gcc - long long without stdint.h (except that through most of the 90's we had the excuse that C99 wasn't written yet, plus the excuse that "ordinary" CPUs didn't have 64-bit integer registers, so the lack of a 64-bit integer among the basic C types made some sense.) – user2404501 Jul ...

Sep 06, 2016 · So I still doubt these are new -- g++ has always complained about 'no long long' in that whole stupid context of C++98 not having them wheres C99 (IIRC, or maybe a 2003 interim C++ or something) had them yet we were not supposed to have access to it.
