Not only is it supported, but, when I tried to compare 1080p transmitted to the same monitor via VGA vs. HDMI, I really could not tell any noticeable difference. This may not be true for all monitors (depending on their D-to-A converters). There was an extra step to get VGA configured just right.

Apr 18, 2009 · VGA, DVI, Component, and HDMI can all carry HD resolutions. I believe HDMI is the only one that supports 1080p24 though. But other than that, you can use all of the others to carry an HD video signal. HDMI is also the only one of the lot that can carry both video and audio.
