Currently basic RedHat Enterprise Linux 6/CentOS 6 doesn't support XFS as root filesystem. There is a addon-package for RHEL 6 to support it as non-root partition, after installation. It is best not to use XFS with RHEL/CentOS 6 and wait for CentOS 7 (2014) or if you really have to use XFS, you can try Fedora for up-to-date XFS support.
