Feb 08, 2009 · (3 replies) My friend has an external sata hard disk, and likes the hot-plug feature. However, that works only if the appropriate sata setting in the motherboard bios is set to AHCI (IDE compatibility and RAID are two other options, but hot-plugging doesn't work with them). The machine has WinXP atm, while Linux is about to be installed in the following couple of days.

Then I installed CentOS 4.7/4.8, I got no HDD message when I installed it. I checked my BIOS(EFI) and changed the SATA mode from AHCI to RAID.

Update: NVIDIA has provided information (under NDA) that permits implementation of NCQ support, and a sample Linux implementation (patch) as well. Unfortunately, the patch needs debugging, and no one seems to have the time or motivation. NOTE: Newer NVIDIA chipsets are AHCI, and use the ahci driver rather than the sata_nv driver.

Aug 31, 2008 · I have the same problem trying to install Centos 5.2 on my M3N-H/HDMI (AMD Athlon X2 64 5600 EE), with multiple Samsung HDDs: 1xHD501LJ (500G) and 2xHD103UJ (1T) The install process seems to halt at "Loading ahci driver", but in fact it doesn't - pressing Alt-F4 shows it slowly timing out trying to talk to each of the SATA channels.

Long ago, I posted about only seeing four of the six sata ports on my asus server board. According to research I've done since then (I now need the ports!), the solution is to enable the AHCI bios, which turns on NCQ and the last two ports.

This is a multi-boot system from 2009 with a few versions of Windows installed, (all were installed when in the IDE emulation compatibility mode, and now changing it to AHCI mode in the BIOS).

I traced the problem down to AHCI. If I disable AHCI in the BIOS then the system boots into CentOS7. Can someone tell me how to add AHCI into the initrd on a running CentOS7 system? (So I can re-enable AHCI in the BIOS) I tried . dracut --add-drivers ahci -f /boot/initrd-$(uname -r).img $(uname -r) and lsinitrd shows:

Mar 17, 2014 · As far as I can tell, the BIOS does not support SAS. The "SATA Emulation" parameter in the Device Configuration section of the BIOS has three settings, named as follows: 1. RAID+AHCI (This is the only setting providing AHCI) 2. Separate IDE Controllers (I used this for IDE mode.) 3. Combined IDE Controller (I haven't used this.)
