Mar 14, 2017 · USB 3.1 Gen 1 is the same thing as USB 3.0. USB 3.1 Gen 2 is a different thing entirely as I expect it needs a much newer kernel. I don’t think it strictly requires USB-C, but in practice that’s the only form factor I’ve seen it appear in so far.

While CentOS 6.8 can handily support USB3 on some hardware (been there, done that myself, with CentOS 6.5 if I recall on a Dell Latitude D830 with an ExpressCard XHCI (USB3) controller that worked great).
