Dec 03, 2019 · Anyone one run a Bar Support on there lathe to run longe bars in your lathes. Like the the ones JF Burns make. Never seen one in production. Basically they are just stands to hold the bar sticking out of the back of the lathe to prevent the bar from whipping.

Nov 12, 2012 · Finally got around to making some bushings for the left side of my Lathe spindle to support longer pieces of bar stock. My spindle is nearly 30" long from the chuck jaws to the fitting on the opposite end that the collet closer attaches to.

The spindle on a Swiss CNC lathe controls the bar movement against a stationary tool on the tooling jig. The bar does the moving instead of the tool. All of the cutting is done right next to the collet. This differs from a CNC turning center where the cutting occurs as the tool moves to the bar. Swiss Lathes are great for high production work.

Dec 05, 2006 · Other bar puller versions, such as Royal’s Grippex model, use the lathe’s coolant system to provide the gripping force. Pressurized coolant actuates a piston within the puller, causing three gripper fingers with hardened inserts to clamp down on a bar. Mr. Sheridan says that 15 psi of coolant pressure is enough for these pullers to position a 210-lb bar for turning.
