I have personally added IPSec kernel support to the Shibby_097 build of TomatoUSB, *including* all relevant modules, and it increased the image size 57653 bytes. DD-WRT uses the same kernel, so I expect it would be the same. Doing the bare minimum as specified above added only 8469 bytes.

Aug 09, 2013 · Second : Since my router already has a VPN interface , why couldnt I just enter setup information from one of the VPN services like "Private Internet Access " , and would have no need for DD-WRT . Their protocol support IPSec and L2TP and so does my Cisco interface .

Mar 06, 2019 · For dd-wrt firmware, I guess that it should verify firmware at first, then decide to if to accept the new firmware or not. Dd-wrt firmware only recognizes dd-wrt family firmware. This will let dd-wrt trapped inside its own firmware family at least for E2500 v3. I do not know if other router with dd-wrt firmware has the same problem or not.
