Re: Poweredge 2950 RAID5 As Todd said, the BEST option is to call Dell technical support. Anytime the controller sees a drive with a configuration that does not match the configuration AND timestamp the controller has in its memory for its current array, it marks the drive as Foreign.

I recently purchased a Dell Poweredge 2950 at an auction for a very low price, couldn't pass it up. It didn't come with any hard drives so I ordered 5 SATA caddy trays and I am curious what the maximum size the hard disks could be. Due to budget reasons I need to reuse this server as a file archive server so I need to put some 4 tb hard drives in it. Of course the perc 6/i does not support hard drives over 2 tb. I have 4 300G disks in a RAID5 configuration on a Dell Poweredge 2950 with PERC 5/i. I'm trying to replace one of the disks (it failed) with a disk from another identical server. I got a warning that the disk was foreign, but I cleared the foreign config. Now, however, I can't actually add the new disk to the RAID.
