Im running VMWARE on parralles windows from my mac, and i have read about people who have a similar problem, where the solution seems to change some setting in the VMX to "false".

By default, Converter Standalone does not preserve sparse files on the source machine during Linux P2V conversion. If you have large sparse files on the source, they are created as non-sparse on the destination virtual machine. This renders the used space on the destination file system larger than that on the source machine.
