May 30, 2011 · My entire library is AIFF. No problems with tags at all. Uncompressed linear PCM audio with embedded ID3 tags: "ID3 tags were designed with MP3 in mind, so they would work without problems with MP3 and MP3Pro files. However, the tagsets are an independent part of the MP3 file and should be usable elsewhere.

In practice, the only other formats which widely uses ID3v2 tags are AIFF and WAV. In AIFF the tag is stored inside an IFF chunk named "ID3". Windows media ASF files (WMA, WMV) have their own tagging formats but also support ID3 Tags embedded as attributes.

Feb 24, 2016 · WAV's CAN BE tagged, and i have started re-ripping everything to WAV Tag& Rename does an excellent job with this tagging of .wav and SSL sees the tags, no problem so if you want to rip to WAV use itunes, or audiograbber, soundgrinder, or whatever, and then tag with Tag&Rename if you want AIFF tagged, use itunes and it automatically tags them,

Dec 26, 2011 · Viavia I found out that this hiss is actually the data chunk that contains the ID3 tag which is written at the end of each file. Oddly, this problem does not exist when importing dB Poweramp-tagged AIFF files. But what matters is that Sooloos does read tags- even in WAV and AIFF files. Programs that support WAV/AIFF tagging:

Jan 28, 2004 · > sort of tag supported for AIFF or FLAC. ID3 tags are sorta-kinda supported in AIFF/WAV files but are very well supported in FLAC. Not only will you save disk space, but you have well-supported tagging and built-in integrity checksums. I think FLAC is a much better archival format for your purposes.

What's the mystery with tagging WAV files?

Oct 16, 2015 · Most audio players do not support wav chunks. If you want to see an intelligent autio player/organizer, which support chunks in the beginning and the end of file, as well as UTF-8/system codepage switching, which treats the wav "tags" in the same way as all other tag formats, try MusicBee. ~~

Nov 28, 2015 · I came to the same conclusion as Paul that AIFF is generally the best option. Even if you don’t use a mac you may well use iTunes if only to transfer files to an iPod, iPad or iPhone, and for that reason you want a format that Apple properly supports. And unlike Apple lossless AIFF has defacto support for the Id3 metadata standard.

AIFF audio files can be tagged with several tagging formats. Adding tags to AIFF files does not break the AIFF format, which is extensible by nature. Any well-behaved AIFF reader is able to handle every AIFF file even if it doesn't understand the tags it contains, in which case it simply ignores them. Possible AIFF tagging formats include:

ID3 tags, and AAC? - Apple Community

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/272808
Dec 17, 2005 · AAC, MP3, WMA, WAV and others are music compression formats. ID3 is a 'tagging' system for music files used by many compression formats. ID3 is not a music compression format (Google 'ID3' for more info). Song file size is a factor of bit rate and song length. Audio quality is a factor of bit rate and encoding format.

If that's the case, we'll need to (a) figure out how other software is embedding ID3 tags into AIFF files, and (b) add support to Mutagen for doing so. Not that it's particularly relevant, but just to get on the ol' soapbox for a moment: ID3 is a truly terrible metadata format. Its unnecessary complexity the cause of many headaches in beets ...
