Feb 07, 2009 · I'm wanting to know if the AM3 CPU's with both the DDR2 and DDR3 memory controllers will also work in AM2 - not AM2+ - boards. It'd be really nice to get an AM3 chip now, and then, when the 800 series chipsets come out and DDR3 prices have fallen, buy one of those boards and some DDR3, and then sell the 690G and DDR2 I've got now.

Oct 28, 2011 · the am3 boards usually have better IGPs and southbridge chips that AM2 cpu's couldn't work with, however the AM3 cpu's were able to work with the AM2 and AM3 platforms as far as chipsets, but AM2 cpu's couldn't do some of the features of the newer chipsets for AM3…Cooling: Corsair H100, x2 250mm, x1 140mm, x3 120mm fans.

Oct 13, 2009 · You cannot put an AM3 CPU into an AM2 socket, period. AM3 CPUs will usually work in an AM2+ socket, which also supports AM2 just fine. But strictly an AM2 board? I've NEVER seen one that would take an AM3 CPU, BIOS update or no. This one won't if you check the CPU compatibility list.

Aug 10, 2012 · AM3+ CPU's will fit an AM3 socket the trick is BIOS support (mostly). AMD will not officially support AM3+ CPU's in anything but 9 series AMD chipsets.
