Most likely your model is set by default to RAID and the easy way to tell whether or not your drive controller is set to RAID or AHCI is to go to the device manager. If there is an IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers category, click to expand that and you will see an Intel SATA AHCI controller listed there.

Jun 02, 2012 · Hey all, I now have a DV7 7008tx laptop. The laptop came originally with 2 x 1TB hard drives and a 32GB SSD in cache mode (I think). I took out the main 1Tb drive and installed windows 7 from the recovery disks I made on a 128 SSD M4 hard drive that I had.

The Intel series 7 chipset supports sata III, and I believe the dv7-7xxx model series have the drive connected to the sata III port. However, the BIOS is set to RAID, not AHCI. Install the latest version of the Intel RST driver for TRIM support in RAID mode. The W8.1 driver from Intel will work on W10.

Not to worry. The BIOS is actually set to RAID and you cannot change it but the RAID it uses has all the attributes of AHCI and supports SSDs just fine. You do not need to set or tweak anything in the BIOS and you do not need to load the Samsung optimizer tool. You can get a second hard drive kit here:
