Does free ESXi support multi-cpu? VMware Communities

    https://communities.vmware.com/thread/161138
Jun 24, 2009 · The way I read it was as processors on the same motherboard, not as isolated installs. Besides what use is vSMP support if you have only one physical processor (even with 2 cores) ? So the answer is YES, it supports multi-CPU, and you can specify details for what you need during the registration process.

Support of multiple physical processors? VMware Communities

    https://communities.vmware.com/thread/118671
Dec 23, 2007 · Hi. I understand VMware Server doesn't support SMP in the free version, but does it utilize multiple physical processors? I have a Proliant with 8 CPUs, I'm wondering if the VM server will be able to make use of the CPUs to help spread the load, or if I'd need ESX for that.

Licensing for ESXi Hosts - VMware

ESXi hosts are licensed with vSphere licenses. Each vSphere license has a certain CPU capacity that you can use to license multiple physical CPUs on ESXi hosts. When you assign a vSphere license to a host, the amount of CPU capacity that is consumed is equal to the number of physical CPUs in the host. vSphere Desktop that is intended for VDI environments is licensed on per virtual machine basis.

Allowing Unsupported CPU’s on ESXI 6.7

    https://commander614.wixsite.com/website/single-post/2018/07/08/Allowing-Unsupported-CPU%E2%80%99s-on-ESXI-67
Jul 07, 2018 · This doesn’t guarantee CPU’s to run with 6.7, only that they will pass the checks, and can install and start to load. This does not apply to other devices that also may be Unsupported. Everything done from here on out will involve modifying the ESXI binaries. I will not provide the modified files.Author: Daniel Lumby

ESXi does not support using local, internal SATA drives on the host server to create VMFS datastores that are shared across multiple ESXi hosts. Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) disk drives. Supported for installing ESXi 5.0 and for storing virtual machines on VMFS partitions.

AMD Ryzen "Working" with VMware ESXi 6.5 to an extent

I have 16 CPU cores for less than 300$ and AMD’s Simultaneous Multi-Thread beats Intel’s HyperThreading without breaking a sweat! The only issue I had during install was due to the NIC drivers as ESXi 6.5 doesn’t support Realtek NICs by default anymore.

ESXi can determine whether a virtual machine needs hardware support for virtualization. ESXi makes this determination based on the processor type and the virtual machine. Overriding the automatic selection can provide better performance for some use cases.

    https://blogs.vmware.com/performance/2008/06/esx-scheduler-s.html
Jun 24, 2008 · ESX supports virtual machines configured with multiple virtual CPUs (for example, ESX 3.x supports up to 4 vCPUs). Handling mixed loads of uniprocessor and multiprocessor VMs can be challenging for a scheduler to get right. This article answers some common questions about deploying multiprocessor VMs,
