Mar 30, 2009 · I'm thinking that ESXi isn't the ideal candidate for this requirement, so should I stick with VMware Server which I know supports USB passthrough? Does ESX support USB? I'm running ESXi 3.5.0 (albeit currently on a Dell Precision 670 with x 6 USB ports). Thanks in advance,

Jul 21, 2009 · And yes, I could use VMware Server/Workstation but we want to use a Hypervisor! The laptop I'm using ((Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook S7210) has a Marvell Yukon 88E8055 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller and, not suprisingly, ESXi does not support this. ESXi 4 refuses in install (failed to load lvmdriver), ESXi 3.5 installs but my IP address is 0.0.0.0.

I'm running ESXi 6.5 free that is running from a usb but when I plug in another usb to use as a datastore nothing. lsusb doesn't show the usb only the other drives. Sep 26, 2012 · VMware ESXi 5.1 has USB 3.0 support, but it's currently limited to using the vSphere Web Client to map client-side USB 3.0 devices to the remote VM. Long story short, turns out ESXi 5.1 doesn't really support USB 3.0 in the way you might think. In other words, if your system running ESXi 5.1 has USB 3.0 ports, that's nice!
