Dec 30, 2008 · So a Quad or "Octo" core would just encode a crap load faster than a regular old dual core at the same clock speed. The encoder app will encode as fast as the processor lets it, is this correct? So basically a Quad would encode twice as fast at the same clock speed, and an 8 core 4 times as fast as a dual core at the same clock, right?

Staxrip is a GUI but doesn't hide the code in it's exe like Handbrake, instead everything is called as a separate replaceable, individually updatable program, and it does support VapourSynth etc. too.

Mar 26, 2016 · Joined: Mar 4, 2007. I believe handbrake utilizes all cores. One instance with 2 videos in queue is the way to go. It showed 90+ % usage on my 6 core xeon which was good enough for me. I forget exactly, but I found 1 instance with queue to be just as …

Apr 02, 2019 · Re: Handbrake: expensive old CPU versus new budget CPU. My suspicion is that you'll want at least as many cores. Plus, thanks to the Ryzen revolution, cores are cheap. Look at a cheap 4 core Ryzen. A Pentium G5400 is $80 on Newegg. A quad core Ryzen 3 2200G is $95.

Jun 08, 2018 · I run a Plex Media Server so I encode all my rips using Handbrake and the default High Profile setting. When I started getting into Blu-Ray's I purchased an older Dell Precision Workstation running dual quad core Xeon processors with 32GB ram and running Windows 10 Pro to help speed up the Handbrake process.

Sep 21, 2014 · If you have a quad core or better CPU, x264 at the veryfast preset will be faster than CUDA and produce better quality. On slower CPUs CUDA should be faster than the CPU. You'll have to decide for yourself whether the quality loss is worth the speed gain.

The second computer is a laptop with a dual core intel i5-5200u 2.5ghz and 8 gb of ram The weird result is, both computers encode the video at nearly identical speeds. I thought maybe it was because the i5 had intel quicksync but it is a 5th gen processor so it does not work with H.265 (I also turned off quicksync in handbrake and it made no difference in speed).

Either way, Handbrake is an extremely popular x264 encoding and transcoding application. It is very common practice these days to encode video for mobile devices. Quick transcoding is an important CPU application. Again, the only thing to note here is that this chip falls in-line with quad core Intel performance expectations.
