But SPDIF and HDMI ARC[not eARC] do not support 5.1 PCM format, it can only enable 5.1 Dolby Digital / AC3 format. So users who take audio receiver with HDMI ARC / SPDIF link CAN NOT get surround sound working with N-Switch.

Nov 06, 2019 · I did a lot of research on this and the only way to get 5.1 out of your PC is by using the S/PDIF output on your motherboard. The RX 480 does not support 5.1 output although it supports 5.1 native, and your motherboard will not put 5.1 out through the HDMI cable.

Apr 14, 2019 · TV and AV Receiver (Harman kardon AVR141) are connected through optical cable. I am able to get the sound output through speakers but not receiving the Dolby 5.1 surround sound. How can i get 5.1 dolby digital sound using optical cable only as my tv doesn't have HDMI ARC and the AV Reciever doesnot support sound via HDMI Cable.

Oct 04, 2011 · Awhile back I decided it would be wickedly cool to connect my home theater's Samsung 5.1 Surround Sound system to my computer. Since HDMI is not possible with the type of sound system (and I don't think the gpu can accept a sound signal anyways) I connected it via the SPDIF connection on my motherboard's sound-card.
