From first hand experience, Ubuntu does run on Atom N450, but not very well. I also have an Acer Aspire One netbok with Atom N270 processor (thank you, Intel). I can confirm that, despite specifications, the Linux /proc/cpuinfo is correct, and Atom N270 is indeed a dual core, or almost dual core processor.
