Dec 29, 2012 · What distribution? It's 8 for typical Symmetric Multiprocessing (SMP) hardware and 32 for bigger SMP hardware. The maximum is 4096 but AFAIK it's only used for code testing purposes and you'll have a hard time finding hardware with that many CPUs....

Mar 28, 2007 · Having dual core in and of itself is nothing special unless you are running workstation apps that are multithreaded for dual cpu. Linux out of the box will run SMP, whereas windows needs to be one of the Server versions.
