Jul 30, 2018 · While it isn’t completely foul proof, you can use a simple single lspci line to check if you have a SATA or PATA hard drive. This method doesn’t always detect the type of drive you have, but if it does it always does it instantly and with an absolute minimum of playing around.

Dec 12, 2006 · Yes and No. This is one of the tricky situation – sometime smartd does support SATA drives and sometime it simply does not support smartd. Smartmontools should work correctly with SATA drives under both Linux 2.4 and 2.6 kernels, if you use the standard IDE drivers in drivers/ide.

Personally, I think SSD drivers are still not there for server usage. Price is still a big factor too. Sure disk I/O is great on SSD, but price per GB is not. BTW, Linux dose support SSD.
