Rendering performance is CPU-based and to some degree GPU quality based. Not too sure if SLI is possible, but most of the time, your renders will be determined on your CPU. There is such thing as gpu rendering and maya does support it.

I have been familiar with Maya since version 2009, and a lot has changed. However, in newer versions, including the two most recent instalments, 2017 and 2018 beta, Maya’s renderers do not support GPU. Of course, Hardware 2.0 is a GPU viewport renderer, but for good quality picture (Software, Arnold, etc.) they currently only use CPU.

Oct 28, 2013 · Maya does not use SLI, but if you for instance are running dual montors, having 2 cards (non SLI) can be helpful as you are not dividing the VRAM across two big screens. Adobe Premiere currently only uses the display graphics, and not the extra cards, for Mercury.

The GPU can also be used to calculate deformers and rigs, but only if they support the acceleration or you have it enabled. If you are into it, you could also write GLSL shaders :) Tech like SLI is completely ignored, as the only relevant GPU to Maya is the one displaying the viewport.
