We are using Mountain Lion Server which uses runs services and not the normal System Preferences settings. The server overrides all SysPref settings. SMB is an option, but Samba is not.

Tried turning off SMB sharing and then turning it back on but it did not work. I should mention that this is on Mountain Lion Server where the shares are located. The shares were created using the Server Manager in Snow Leopard and then upgraded to Mountain Lion Server. The server piece is quite different now so it may be a source of issue.

Apr 26, 2013 · Just upgraded to Mountain Lion and i've been running into a problem that's making me tear what little hair i have out of my head. Basically, after upgrading i've been unable to make any SMB connections to any of my Windows boxen at home. Prior to the update there was no problem doing this.

Aug 27, 2012 · 32-bit mode will not be supported by Mountain Lion so they are likely not going to fix the SMB/AFP sharing issues. If you can't get into 64-bit mode you are, unfortunately, out of luck for shares and you should probably just go back to Lion as the GM of Mountain Lion wont work at all anyways.

Dec 11, 2012 · You have it reversed. Lion dropped support of SMB1 in favor of SMB2. If you are attempting to connect to an SMB1 server, you need to do what is describe here: OS X Lion: Connecting to older SMB servers that do not support UNICODE or NT style commands.

Oct 28, 2013 · I have used this on Lion and Mountain Lion macs to see and use smb mounts, as time machine backup devices. I found this a while back when it was first disabled with Lion using STEP 1 below. But then Apple applied some security patches to Lion and I had to move to STEP 2.
