The Nexus 5 USB-OTG behaves like at Nexus 7 and Nexus 10. From the hardware site it is all functional, but mounting attached mass storage devices, like USB-Sticks, is not possible without rooting the device (see StickMount).

I have a similar problem with my Nexus 7, which I've had for about a week. With Nexus Media Importer installed, I had been using a USB thumb drive and I had been controlling my Elecraft KX3 ham radio without a problem until today. Earlier, I connected my radio via OTG, and the radio was not recognized.
