May 08, 2005 · That brings up perhaps the biggest caveat about Quartz 2D Extreme. Like Quartz Extreme before it, Quartz 2D Extreme is not supported by all video cards. It requires an ATI Radeon 9600 or NVIDIA GeForce FX or better. In terms of technology, Quartz 2D Extreme requires support for the ARB_fragment_program OpenGL extension.

Mar 12, 2006 · Apple has choosen not to enable Quartz 2D Extreme for a good reason and that is because it currently does not provide any significant performance advantage and in some cases actually might be slower. Hopefully, Apple will fix whatever is wrong with Quartz 2D Extreme in 10.5 (Leopard).

PCI Extreme does look interesting, but probably not for our "Pismo" PowerBooks. According to the documentation, "The hack PCI Extreme! performs will not allow older cards, such as the Rage II, Rage 128 Pro, Nexus, or any Voodoo or Nvidia cards to utilize Quartz Extreme.

This is the message that pops up when I open iMovie, "iMovie requires a graphics card that is compatible with Quartz Extreme. One or more of your graphics cards does not support Quartz Extreme."
