VMWare may be great for testing RAC on a single system. However, consider the following before deploying Oracle system on VMWare: Oracle Corporation does support their products on VMware, but does not certify them. The difference is that in the case of support, Oracle will try to fix the bug/problem and will do so if the bug is known.

Oct 29, 2009 · So, I installed VMware Server (server only) on my workstation and installed the guest OS (Win XP with 1.1G RAM) on the external drive. If I want to start the VMware, I have to plug in the USB external drive. The whole software resides on the guest OS: Oracle 10g DB, WebLogic, Tuxedo, PeopleTools, HRCS. I ran everything inside the Guest OS.
