ZFS and BTRFS are still in infancy as far as file systems go. Many Linux distributions only recently began to support them. Synology, and most companies, will not implement ZFS or BTRFS for at least a few more years I'd imagine. I wouldn't recommend using ZFS or BTRFS yet either.

Synology does not use BTRFS raid, as anything beyond simple stripe and mirror are not stable with BTRfS. Hence, they use (smart integration of) btrfs over mdadm. So whatever raid levels are supported by mdadm and whatever conversions are available that’s what you get.
