The sales guy said a VGA cable can't carry a 1080p signal, but I wonder if that's true, as the 360 does show full hd as an option, even though it changes these options every time you plug in a different cable. If it's not possible, why show the option?

Nov 12, 2007 · My issue is I don't have any cables to hook it up except for svideo at the moment. That will limit me to 480p correct? Is a vga cable going to give the same performance as a dvi-hdmi cable? I have a vga input jack on the hdtv so that is an option as well as an open hdmi input jack. My video card has both vga and dvi outputs.

Apr 18, 2009 · You can also buy a DVI to VGA converter for pretty cheap if you have DVI on your computer, but VGA on your HDTV (although VGA is less common on a TV, and if it does have it it probably also has DVI or HDMI). HDMI is the same as DVI only it also can carry an audio signal on the same cable.

It is correct, 1080p CRT monitors have been around for awhile; they were introduced before anyone ever dreamed of the possibility of a 1080p HDTV.
