This may not be true for all monitors (depending on their D-to-A converters). There was an extra step to get VGA configured just right. In principle, we would expect digital to be better, even though I failed to observe that. VGA cable transmits analysis signal, standard VGA cable support 720P(1920x720).

My projector does 720p and 1080i, but it only has VGA, Composite Video (the yellow one), and a S-Video plug. The Xbox isn't too bad, because I have got a cable that splits the signal into a VGA sub which I can plug into the projector, and then a Red + White RCA which I can plug into my speakers. I think that gives me 720p.

Nov 12, 2007 · It depends on the TV. If the HDTV is native 1366x768, then WXGA 1366x768 VGA is likely to give the best match for computer display cards and game consoles. Analog component 1080i will be deinterlaced downscaled to 1366x768, 720p will be upscaled. In both resolution cases, analog component or HDMI inputs usually overscan by design.

Mar 15, 2008 · I l had a sly laugh when one of mates showed me his 40" Bravia which he'd been bragging about. That doesn't support 1080p over VGA either, so he had it over component at 1080i (he claimed 1080p didn't work over component either, didn't check myself). 720p via VGA on my crusty old Sammy looks miiiiiles better!

Sep 11, 2016 · VGA is analog and 720p is a bit of a reach. A video card or even an external unit with the HDMI would be the PC approach, but the monitor may not have that interface. Once that conversion from analog to digital is done on the pc, then any unit with an HDMI port will work as a display.
