Vista (or Windows XP, 2000 Pro, NT Workstation) does not support RAID5. If you have RAID5 set up, then you are probably running a 3rd party solution, probably implemented in hardware on your motherboard. Vista just sees the RAID array like any other hard drive, it does not "know" it's RAID.

I haven't done any hacking in Vista, but it recognises the RAID-5 disks anyway and labels them RAID-5 (failed). This would suggest to me that Vista does support software RAID-5. At least in the RC2 "Premium" version.

Apr 10, 2011 · I have Vista premium home edition on my computer. I currently am running off a 500 Gb hardrive that came with the computer. I have added two 2 Tb drives that I've set up as a RAID 1 array in the BIOS but Windows does not see the array.
