USB will prevent it, since VM is locked to physical USB port. Maybe VMware some day will introduce host-USB in ESX, but today you have to use USB-over-IP solution (will work with VMotion)...

Jul 21, 2009 · And yes, I could use VMware Server/Workstation but we want to use a Hypervisor! The laptop I'm using ((Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook S7210) has a Marvell Yukon 88E8055 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller and, not suprisingly, ESXi does not support this.

Jan 10, 2008 · In a word No. ESX has no USB support. however RDP doe have device redirection and can read and attatch to things like USB storage devices and Printers, for things like scanning (Twain redirection) it is best to either use a dedicated scanning workstation.
