Aug 26, 2011 · I am trying to connect a Netgear Wireless (WGPS606) Print server to my wireless network using WP2A-PSK(AES) security. I noticed that the print server doesn't show WPA2 as an option for security. I can get the printers connected and can see them, but the print server isn't seen by any computer. Is it the security mismatch and if so is there a fix?

The WGPS606 has a default IP address, if following the brief setup doesn't work or you choose (or need) to set it up manually. For the record: Following the brief directions only has succeeded for me, when I have an OPEN (no WEP or WPA) router broadcasting an SSID of "NETGEAR" - obviously it can't autoconnect and configure to any protected network.

Dec 22, 2014 · I found that using the wireless functionality of the WGPS606 wasn't a good idea since it doesn't support modern wireless-G security settings like WPA2. I ended up simply connecting it via Ethernet to one of the wired ports on my wireless router and using the web interface to turn the wireless radio off. Call it a free wireless security upgrade!

Re: WGPS606 and Windows & As far as I'm aware, the WGPS606 will initially acquire an address by DHCP, which will then be changed during setup to a static address - the DHCP server may still show the previous DHCP lease until such time as it expires.

If all your wireless devices support WPA2, then ideally you should use WPA2. If some of your wireless devices only support WPA, then it is OK to use WPA. As long as you are using a stong password, either WPA or WPA2 should provide adequate security. Message Edited by …
