Feb 03, 2009 · The matter is not Windows XP but the video card or driver itself. A lot of video cards that support HDMI do not actually support the audio function. Very few cards have HDMI audio support. If you can give me as much detail as possible about the video card (Manufacturer, type (ATI or nvidia) and model I can do some research for you.

This is something mostly handled by the graphics card and the driver so as long as those support HDMI then you should have no problems. Also, a similar connector, DVI, was in wide use throughout XP's life so if any explicit support is needed in the OS then it's probably already there.
