Dec 02, 2009 · So what happens is the XP clients communicate using SMBv1 to the server, and the Windows 7 clients communicate with SMBv2 (actually v2.1) to the server. If a Windows 7 client were to connect to a share on an XP machine, it would use SMBv1 (as that's all XP understands). Windows 7 to Windows 7 uses SMBv2, you get the idea.

Aug 18, 2017 · Windows XP can't access 2012R2 File Server after disabling SMBv1. I am prepping to upgrade our domain controllers from 2008R2 to 2016. From my understanding, 2016 completely disables SMBv1 from the forest. Due to that, I decided to test machines that depend on that, such as our Windows XP machines, and our scanners.
