Jan 22, 2014 · Hi Dustin, You would need to use the SDK and compile USB 3.0 support and then add that as a module in your XenServer (totally unsupported). With luck, you will have XenServer and USB 3.0 working together.

I am hoping to mount them in XenServer and create new SRs so that one or more VMs can read/write to the drives. From a little preliminary reading I understand that XenServer does not provide NTFS support out of the box.

Jun 15, 2018 · XenServer 7.5 has USB passthrough to VM, and I tried it out. The downside was it didn't remember once the VM was restarted, so I had to add that USB device back to storage so the VM could see it, but they are getting there with USB passthrough. Since its storage, it will only work to passthrough USB flash drives, not anything else USB. --Alan--

After doing a fallback boot in xenserver, I was able to reach /boot and to create the usb-enabled version of the new ramdisk image using mkinitrd --with-usb. After that, the system was able to boot again from the usb drive. It makes me nervous that any particular hotfix might render the USB thumbdrive unbootable like this.
